Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill introduced by Santa Barbara’s rookie Assemblymember Gregg Hart that would increase penalties and enforcement options for state and local governments when confronting oil companies for which existing sanctions are shrugged off as “a cost of doing business.”

The restoration and revival of the historic Lompoc Theatre received a huge financial boost of nearly $2.3 million on Monday, with state Sen. Monique Limón declaring it “a good and happy day.” On Monday morning, about 50 people including Limón, Assemblymember Gregg Hart, other local leaders, and community members gathered for the announcement of the state providing $2,285,000 for the project.
